SDG 2 highlights the complex inter-linkages between food security, nutrition, rural transformation and sustainable agriculture. Achieving the “zero hunger” requires social protection and food systems that are economically efficient, socially inclusive, and environmentally sustainable. Much more effort and innovation are urgently needed in order to sustainably increase agricultural production, improve the global supply chain, decrease food losses and waste, and ensure that all who are suffering from hunger and malnutrition have access to nutritious food. Robust, accountable multi-stakeholder platforms and partnerships are needed to support holistic, well-balanced approaches to achieving the SDG 2 and related targets. ECASA Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Development Cluster being a multi-disciplinary and multi-country team presents a good opportunity to address the strong interlinkage between goals and targets that present challenges in domestication and implementation of SDG 2 and 1 since they are intrinsically linked.
